Art House is a selection of cinematic gems that have conquered festivals in Cannes, Venice, Berlin, and Sundance, gaining acclaim from both audiences and critics. Within one section, you will see eight productions that set trends in the world of art cinema in the past season, commenting on socio-political situations, addressing important contemporary issues, and experimenting with narrative and aesthetics to bring new energy to cinema screens, provoking thought and discussion.
We start with a bang with the screening of "Powoli," a sensual and provocative love story that won the Best Director award at the Sundance Festival. In the following weeks, we won't slow down. The outdoor screen will feature hits from the Cannes festival, including "Club Zero" by Jessica Hausner, who this time weaves a story about selfish parents, the education system, and the upper echelons completely cut off from the real world, all in the aesthetics of Wes Anderson's films. Another must-see in the section will be Aki Kaurismäki's latest film "Opadające liście," an unusual romantic comedy by the Finnish master, who in a bittersweet way proves that love has many names. The program will also include the acclaimed "Czerwone niebo" by Christian Petzold, awarded the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the Berlinale, and "Passages" by Ira Sachs, a cosmopolitan emotional cocktail comprising a bisexual love story, a passionate French love discourse, and a talkative American indie.
Screenings will take place at the MSK Polesie Art Center every summer Friday. The substantive partner of the section is the Kamera Akcja Festival, which will provide you with interesting introductions filled with behind-the-scenes insights from the film world before the screenings.
