There is no better place to engage with films about art than the Józef Montwiłł-Mirecki estate. This neighborhood, known for its artistic spirit, was home to and inspired artists such as Władysław Strzemiński and Katarzyna Kobro. In the "Painters" section, viewers will be able to explore productions depicting the lives and works of artists who have left their mark on world art history.
The program includes the screening of "Powidoki," the last film by Andrzej Wajda, dedicated to Władysław Strzemiński, an artist who is a symbol of artistic Łódź. The second offering in the section is "Frida," directed by Julie Taymor, a fact-based story about the life of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, renowned not only for her extraordinary talent but also for her rich personality and scandalous personal life. The third offering is the Oscar-nominated Polish production "Loving Vincent." Directed by Dorota Kobiela, it is the first full-length painted animation that has captivated audiences worldwide. Each of the 65,000 frames of the film was hand-painted, and the project involved 125 professional painters from around the world, bringing the world of van Gogh's paintings to life on screen. The section will culminate with a screening of "Never Look Away," the Oscar-nominated story about the life of German painter Gerhard Richter.
